The complicated process of integrated circuit fabrication requires many steps where visualization is essential to understand the concept. Interactive multimedia modules were developed to present fundamental concepts using animation and playback features. The modules developed served as good learning tools to complement classroom and laboratory instructions. This paper describes the development of interactive multimedia modules created with Macromedia Director and implemented on the standard web browser with Macromedia's Shock Wave plug-in as the interface. The Interactive Modules and online laboratory manual were implemented in undergraduate senior and graduate classes. The impact of these modules and online laboratory manual was assessed from a survey and interview with the students. Almost all students unanimously preferred modules that incorporated animation and interactivity to traditional static images and diagrams. Online laboratory manual and virtual laboratory tour showed a positive impact on student learning.

The present interactive multimedia courseware is predominantely monolingual. On the other hand, economy, society and education are global and multilingual. Therefore, it seems reasonable to expect that multilingualism should bring benefits to the education process. This paper defines the aspects of multilingual interactive multimedia courseware composition and advocates for the support of multi...

Given the recent development of Intelligent Multimedia Authoring ("IMA") systems, there are few well-developed associated methodologies for authoring courseware. System designers have therefore turned to the automation of instructional design models, originally developed for traditional teaching. In this paper we describe one case of automating a specific instructional design model in an IMA sy...

The significant increase in enrolment in the mathematics courses at Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP) over the past semesters has resulted in an increase of teaching loads for the instructors. This has left little time for the instructors to be involved in supervision of graduate students and do research work. Due to this recurring problem that the instructors encounter every semester, an alt...
